Shutter Types

Self Coiling/Manual Shutters
Maximum structural size: 3000mm wide x 3000mm high.
Ideal for smaller openings this type of shutter can be manually operated by lifting handles attached to the bottom rail. The shutter is counterbalanced by helical wound springs to ensure correct balance of the curtain and to ease operation. Manual shutters are mainly designed to be left in the ‘raised’ position or used on an infrequent basis. In a fire condition the shutter is automatically closed by a fusible link which releases a drop bar weight located in a secondary guide channel. If the door is to be activated by a remote fire alarm signal a speed governor should be included to control the shutter curtains descent. Additional warning systems can also be introduced if required.
Chain Operation/Manual Shutters
Maximum structural size: 5000mm wide x 4000mm high.
Suitable for similar applications to the self coiling shutter but for larger openings.
Operation is by a hand chain mechanism through a manual (motor type) unit which incorporates a controlled descent mode as standard. As with the self coiling shutter this type is also designed mainly to be left in the ‘raised’ position and close in the event of a fire.
Electrically Operated Shutters
Maximum structural size: 7000mm wide x 7000mm high.
(Individual assessments for larger openings can be requested)
Designed for all sizes of opening but especially larger openings. Driven by a geared motor which incorporates an integral controlled
descent mechanism of approx 100mm per second. Operation is by a push button control station positioned adjacent to the door to enable sight of the door during normal operation. Manual operation can be achieved by releasing a pull cord to close the shutter with hand chain to open. These types of shutters are not recommended for openings in constant use.
